Founded in 2018 by a group of 5 university students, The Greenhouse Theatre was created in response to the growing climate crisis and the feeling that more could be done in the arts industry. Our mission was to see if it was possible to create a zero-waste venue made entirely from found and recycled materials and to build a programme of exciting shows that spark sustainable action.
The Greenhouse debuted at the Edinburgh Fringe 2019 in association with Pleasance Theatre. Positioned on the grounds of Dynamic Earth under the shadow of Arthur's Seat we presented 8 brand-new shows to audiences, welcoming over 2,000 attendees. The response was fantastic with 4* and 5* reviews, features in The Guardian, The Stage and The New York Times, and multiple award nominations.
